Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been advised to support the land reform of the Minister of FCT, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, to address various land issues in Abuja.
The Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Mr Abdullahi Candido, gave the advice when he briefed newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.
He said that the land reform would assist the minister right the wrong of the past and do the right thing concerning land allocation in the FCT.
According to him, land allocation in FCT has been abused, a particular land could be allocated to more than three persons. This has generated problems in the past.
The chairman said that the land reform initiative was a welcome development, adding that it was better to have delay in land allocation than to create problems for the people.
“Today the Area Councils suffer a lot, because of allocation people go to court over land issues every week”
He said that land in FCT must be approached carefully because before the creation of FCT there were occupants of the land, adding that every community displaced by development would be compensated.
He said that the councils knew that the land in FCT were vested in the minister, and appealed that the councils be carried along to ensure sanity in the land allocation.
Candido said that residents suffered when the council account was garnish because it could not access funds for desired development
