Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has admitted Carl Ikeme will be out for a long time, but he hopes the Wolves goalkeeper will return for next year’s World Cup just as he explained the reasoning behind the hiring of a second goalkeeper trainer for the national team.
“It’s unfortunate that Carl Ikeme will be sick for a long time, we miss him, but hopefully he will come back for the World Cup,” Rohr said.
“So, for the moment we will work with the other goalkeepers.”
Rohr also revealed that it was the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) who requested for a second goalkeeper trainer to help the Eagles solve the goalkeeping crisis caused by the absence of top-choice Ikeme.
He and the second goalkeeper trainer Enrico Pionetti have since arrived Kano to be part of the CHAN Eagles training camp.
“The NFF asked me to get a second trainer to solve the goalkeeping problem in the team,” he said.
“Alloy (Agu) has been doing a good job and he will look at the goalkeepers in Africa, while the second goalkeeper coach will look in Europe.”
